The Second Time Around

Moses had already delivered the laws of God to the Israelites once. Now, he had to do it again to a whole new generation. That is what Deuteronomy means, "second law." It is not a second law, but it is the second time he had to give them God's law because of the death of the unfaithful generation in the wilderness.

I think this should serve as a stark reminder to all of us as believers today. If we do not obey the laws of God, He can choose to write us off and start again with a new people or a new generation. That is what is happening in many ways today. The church in America has missed God's way, and it is declining. However, God is blessing in many parts of the world where the believers are obeying His Word.

We must remember that our obedience to God doesn't just effect us, but it also effects our children.(Deuteronomy 4:40) He adds other blessings to us as well, so that our days are enhanced. This does not mean we will not get sick and die, or that we will never have trials. However, He is with us to guide us into His will which always makes our lives better than when we are on our own.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 5-8.
