Pride
Pride is one of those things that God hates so much that He has to punish us for it.(Jeremiah 50:31) It may not seem bad to people today, but if we read God's Word, we see a different story. From Genesis to Revelation there are stories and teachings about how pride destroys lives and brings people down. When God sees a proud person, He will bring them down in one way or another.
God's hatred of pride gives us an insight into sin. Sin is not just breaking God's rules. Sin is doing what we want to do, instead of doing what God designed us to do. Why do we think our way is best? Pride. The only way to get away from sin is to forsake pride. We must admit to ourselves and to God that we don't know anything on our own. God gives us every ability we have, so we should depend upon Him and not ourselves. We should live in humble thankfulness.
The great thing is that God loves humility. He lifts up the humble. He gets on the side of the humble and helps them, instead of fighting against them. Even Jesus modeled perfect humility when He was on earth, because of His total submission to the Father, and His dependence on the Holy Spirit. If Jesus wasn't proud, we should never be proud. We should live in humility like Jesus. Then, God can build us up to do great things through us for His kingdom.
