Santeria

This afternoon Doug took us to San Pedro to meet Rafael and Jocelyn Castro. Rafael has been the pastor of the Iglesia Bautista Nuevo Palestinia for 12 years. He is also starting a mission in a different part of town from the church. They are a very special couple. They have two children, and they are very hard workers for the Lord. Their church has 115 members, 6 cell groups, and they pray every weekday morning from 6-7 AM. However, it is a very poor area, and his church does not have very many men to be leaders and teachers. Please, join me in praying for this family and this church.

As we drove from their house to the mission we encountered a site that is unusual for us, but not for them. A witch, who practices a pagan religion called Santeria, was standing in the road very close to their house. She had a teenage young man dig a hole right in the middle of the intersection where the two dirt roads crossed. The pastor and his wife spoke to her as we rolled down the windows of Doug's car. She was having the boy bury some dead animal which she had sacrificed to her demon to mark out her territory and to keep from losing her connection to that demon. After he finished, she squatted by the side of the road smoking her cigar and doing whatever witches do. She was still there when we returned. This demonic religion mixes elements of catholicism and spiritism. It is definitely the Devils' work to keep people from coming to Christ. Please, join us in praying for the Spirit of God to break the power of Satan in that place and all across the Dominican Republic, so that many people will come to know the true power of Jesus Christ.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 134-136.
