Listening to People

This morning my missionary son-in-law, Jeff Loomis, shared with our church family the plan for sharing Jesus with the Japanese people in the wake of their devastation. After meeting the immediate physical needs, the next step is to listen to them with a caring ear about their grief and loss. That shows the love of Jesus, so that once they know we care, we can tell them how much Jesus loves them.

The same is true here in the USA. We are surrounded by hurting people. They are rushing by us on their way to somewhere or nowhere. They need to know someone cares for them, and the way we can show it is by listening to them. Then, we can earn the right to share Jesus with them. However, until they know we care, they do not care what or Who we know.

Let's pray for the people of Japan and the missionaries as they listen to them. Also, let's determine to be the missionaries we need to be here. Let's take every opportunity to listen to those who stop long enough to speak to us. Let's draw them out and let them share their hurt. Then, we can share the Healer of all hurts and the Forgiver of all sins.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 32-34.
