Confession is the Key to Forgiveness

Many times we want to try to cover up our sins or to forget that we committed them. We hope they will just go away. Have you noticed that never works? They keep coming back to our minds. God will not let us forget them. He wants to forgive us, but He won't do that until we confess them. (Psalm 32:5)

When we confess a sin. It must be a serious statement about a specific sin. We can't just say, "Please, Lord, forgive my sins." The word confess means "to say the same thing" God would say about that sin. (I John 1:9) So, we have to take the sin and its consequences seriously, because God never takes sin lightly. However, once a child of God confesses a sin, God washes it away, so it does not effect their relationship any more.

Remember, being a Christian is like being married to Jesus. (Romans 7:4) When a husband or wife sins against their spouse, they are still married, but the relationship suffers, until the guilty party apologizes. Then, the relationship is restored. It is the same way in our relationship with Jesus. Therefore, let's be quick to confess our sins and stay close to Jesus.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 33-36.
