A Soft Heart or A Cynical Heart

This afternoon Chris Ward and I went out for our monthly "Operation Care." We go out into our community and give away Bibles to people who do not have one, and we pray for folks who will share their needs with us and give us permission to pray with them and for them. It is always a blessing for me. We found one young man who needed a Bible, and we had several people allow us to pray with them.

In the process of going door to door we found one younger lady who was very open. We shared Christ with her and tried to encourage her. Her heart seemed to be so soft. She was so open and ready to have a change in her life. She knew she needed the Lord Jesus and the church to make her life complete. It was such a joy to speak to her. I pray we will see her again, and we will see huge smile on her face from drawing close to the Lord.

On the other hand we walked up to one house where two men were fixing a pick-up truck. Believe me, I know how frustrating that can be. One man was laying on his back looking under the dash of the truck. The other was reading the owners' manual. We spoke to the man who was reading the book, since we did not want to bother them. I asked if they had a Bible. The man said that his mother inside had one, but "when he died they would bury him, and he would just be in the ground." I assured him that the Lord wanted us to go to Heaven when we die. He did not seem to like that answer too much. He replied that when he died, "he would just throw some money up at God, and maybe He would let him in." My heart was hurt by his cynicism. Obviously, he had been turned off to the Lord in some way. We thanked them for their time, and we left.

I am going to pray for this man, as well as for the lady. God can touch any heart. I pray that one day we can go back to that house and show that man the love of Christ and the real way to Heaven. I pray that his heart would be soft like the younger lady, and he would put his trust in Christ alone.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 33-35.
