The Ultimate Healing

I borrowed the title from a song again tonight. This time it is a Wayne Watson song. The reason for the post about healing is that we have been discussing God's healing power for the past two weeks in our Men's Bible Study on Monday mornings. Even though last week was Labor Day and today was our school break here in Henry County, we still had 8 men last week and 7 men today. We have a great time of fellowship and study every Monday.

We have been in Luke 5 for several weeks, because this is an in-depth study of God's Word. There were quite a few references to Jesus' healing power, so we took plenty of time to answer every one's questions by pointing out what the Bible says about healing. I can't tell you everything we went over, but I want to focus on Luke 5:24. It holds the key to understanding God's plan in healing people. Jesus told them, "But in order that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" - He said to the paralytic, "I say to you, rise, and take up your stretcher and go home." God always heals to show people that He is Lord, and that He is the only one who has the power to forgive sins. Forgiveness from sin is the main healing we need, not physical healing. If a person receives physical healing and then, dies and goes to Hell, what good did the healing do? We must have the right focus. God knows when to heal and when not to heal. He does not promise to heal everyone all of the time. His main desire is to see people come to know Christ by grace through faith. Everything else is secondary.

That is why Wayne Watson's song is so true. "The Ultimate healing is to be home free."

Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 22-24 and II Corinthians 8.
