A Steadfast Heart for God - Psalms 57-59 and Romans 4

God blessed David and protected him from his enemies, because he had a steadfast heart for God. David was not perfect. His faith did waver at times, but he came back to God. God could see that David's heart was set on Him for the long haul. David was steadfast in trusting God. In fact, real faith, saving faith, is steadfast. It is not temporary. A person who "tries" God for a while does not have faith in God. That person is selfish. A person with a steadfast heart for God has turned himself over to God, because he knows God is his only hope, his only refuge. God responds to that kind of faith and he saves that person from sin and from the enemies who come in life.

Abraham was that kind of person. Romans 4 gives us a good picture of Abraham's faith in God. His faith was not perfect either, but it was lasting. From the time God promised to send him a son until Isaac was born, was 25 years. During that time Abraham was faithfully following God. He made some mistakes, but his heart was set on the Lord. That is why God saved him. He believed God with that lasting faith. He believed God for what he could not see for years until it happened. Are we willing to trust God in that way, or do we give up? If we give up, we are not steadfast. We must take life one day at a time, but we must have a long haul mindset. Our Christianity is not just a convenient belief for a short time. It is a life decision. It is faith for life. We must ask God to build perseverance into our lives, so we can be the picture of a steadfast heart to those around us. Remember, it is not how we start the race that counts. It is how we finish. Let's finish strong for Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 60-62 and Romans 5.
