The New Covenant

 We don't use the word "covenant" very often in our everyday language. We use it in weddings to describe the commitment the husband and wife are making to each other, but other uses are limited. It really means a type of contract between two people or two groups of people. In the Bible God made covenants with people. The first covenant was with Abraham and his descendants. It was passed down through his family. Then, God made a new covenant with all people.

Jeremiah prophesies about this new covenant. (Jeremiah 31:31) "The day is coming," says the Lord, "when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah." Jeremiah goes on to tell everyone that in the new covenant the law of God would be written on the hearts of people. They would be His people, and He would be their God. He would forgive their sins. It would be an even better covenant than the first one. Let's give the Lord all the glory.

It is so wonderful to live under the New Covenant of the Lord. Jesus came to earth to become a man, so He could give His precious blood as the payment for our sins. Then, He established the covenant that if anyone would repent of their sins, put their trust in Him, and surrender to Him as Lord of of their life, they would have forgiveness of their sins and eternal life. Jesus paid it all to make this possible.

Now, when we do trust Him, and enter in to this new covenant, we are to follow Him and to become more like Him. We can do that because now the Holy Spirit lives in us, and He gives us the power and direction to be more and more like Jesus. The Holy Spirit is with us to constantly show us what to do and what to say. This is all available to Jews or Gentiles from any people group on this earth. Let's make sure everyone knows about Jesus and the Good News of this new covenant.
