Wait Patiently for the Lord

Being patient has always been a challenge for me. I think I might have some attention deficit disorder or hyperactivity. I have always had a hard time sitting still for very long. However, I must say that I am making some progress in this area. I believe the Lord used Chris's sickness to teach me some patience. I wish it didn't have to take that for me to have more patience, but it was a good thing that came out of helping to take care of her. Now, I am having to wait patiently on the Lord to lead me forward from here.

King David was a warrior. He led the army, but he also fought in the battles until the near the end of his life. He had to learn to wait patiently for the Lord, too. (Psalm 27:14) Therefore, David was inspired to admonish all of us to wait patiently for the Lord. At the same time as being brave and courageous, we have to wait patiently for the Lord. That is a critical balance we all need in life. Take a minute to look into your own heart for this.

As Christians, we should always want to be actively serving our Lord Jesus Christ. We are saved to serve, not just to sit in a pew. So, we need to be doing our best to pray and seek the Lord to show us just what we should be doing. It is not up to us to decide what we do. It is up to the Lord,. He knows us and He gave us our spiritual gifts when we were saved. He has just the right things for us to do. In many instances we have to be brave and courageous to carry out His will, too.

Therefore, the Christian life is a balance of being active and waiting. It is vital that we stay close to the Lord and grow in Him every day, so we will be strong in our faith and overcome our fears. At the same time, we are praying and waiting patiently for the Lord to give us the next assignment. We don't want to get ahead of God or to be behind Him. We want to expect Him to tell us every time we need to do His will by speaking to us by the Spirit. Then, immediately we go bravely to accomplish His will.
