The Hopes of the Helpless
We all have hopes and dreams. We hope that we will have good health and enough income to meet our needs. We have the hope that our family will be unified and loving, helping to support one another. We hope our friends will be there for us when we have needs. I could go on and on, but what happens to people who are helpless? What happens to those who don't have a job, or a family, or insurance to take care of their needs? That is where the Lord and us, as Christians, are needed to fulfill those hopes.
David saw a lot of evil in his world. There were evil people who were taking advantage of others in various ways to enrich themselves. He cried out for the Lord's help in these things. (Psalm 10:17) He was sure that the Lord knew the hopes of the helpless, and he was sure that God would hear their cries and comfort them. I believe this is true, but God does this in various ways based on His wisdom and understanding. We need to consider this important subject seriously.
God is the one who can give hope to the hearts of the helpless. He does this by revealing Himself to them and assuring them of His love and power. Then, they know that He has not forgotten them, and they have hope for their needs to be met. This keeps them from being depressed about their helplessness. It causes them to be able to have joy in the midst of their needs. This is why all of us need to stay close to God and to pray to Him all of the time, pouring out our hearts to Him. He cares. He hears, and He will respond.
However, often God uses people to meet the needs of other people. He gives us, as Christians, the ability to minister to those who are helpless by sharing our food, our friendship, and our resources with them to meet their needs. We have to be sensitive to the Lord's guidance so that we do His will in helping them in His way. Then, the helpless get their needs met, and we receive the blessing from God since we did His will. Please, remember that we are His hands, feet, and voice in the world today. Let's meet the needs of the helpless the way Jesus would have us to.
