Inheriting Promises

Just because God has made a promise to us in His Word doesn't mean that we see the effects of that promise in our life automatically. Promises are usually conditional. There is something that we have to do, and then, we receive the promise. Also, God always fulfills His promises at the right time. Therefore, we need to know the promises and adjust our lives to them, expecting God to grant the promise when everything is in place.

The Bible shows us a few keys to inheriting the promises. (Hebrews 6:12) We can't become sluggish and not do what we are supposed to do, but we have to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. We can imitate those who we read about in the Bible who inherited promises, and we can imitate people we know now, who are inheriting promises. We imitate their faith and their patience.

Faith is trusting God. If God said He would do something, He will do it. We have to trust the One who made the promises. We must know that He did not only do it in the lives of others, but He will do it in our life, too. Then, we must keep trusting every day, and making those adjustments to show God we are expecting Him to work in His time.

Also,, we have to have patience. That means we are to exhibit perseverance. The word means to bear up under the load and keep going. We can't give up or get sluggish. We keep living a faithful life, even though we haven't seen the fulfillment of the promise yet. Then, one day, we will get what God has promised, and we will be rewarded for our faith and patience. So let's start marking the promises we read in the Bible and doing our part to see them come to pass.
