The Spirit Speaks in You
A lot of times we are worried about what to say in a particular situation. We go over and over possible ways of saying it, but we can't get comfortable. It might be a meeting with our boss. It could be a hard conversation with a friend or family member. We feel afraid that we will say the wrong thing or say it in the wrong way. This fear makes us avoid having those conversations that we really need to have. God doesn't want it to be that way for us.
Jesus told us that there would be hard times for us when we could worry about what to say. (Matthew 10:19,20) However, Jesus told us that when we stand before accusers or have other hard situations, we are not to worry about how or what to speak. He assured us that it will be given to us in that hour; for it is not us who speak, but the Spirit of the Father who speaks in us. This should be a huge relief and encouragement to all of us, as believers.
Jesus is clear that we should not spend time in advance planning what to say. He will give us what to say just at the right time. Of course, the key is that we need to listening to Him, and we need to always be ready to say what He gives us to say and say it in the way He wants us to say it. That takes having a close walk with Jesus every day and all day long. When we do this it frees us up from worry, and it gives us time to focus on other things instead of focusing on our fears.
It is also a wonderful spiritual truth. The Spirit of God dwells in us. We can depend on Him to guide us and empower us in what to say and how to say it. He speaks in us, so we can speak out for the Lord and what is right. This is true for all believers, not just preachers or teachers. He expects all of us to be His witnesses, and He knows we will fall into various trials. Therefore, the Spirit is with us to speak in us and give us His truth to share at the right time.
