A Great Calm
Life can be very hectic since we tend to be busy. However, it is the times of stress that really wear us out. We are too quick to worry about what might happen. We get upset about a lot of things that never end up happening. Of course, the Bible tells us not to worry about anything, but to pray about everything. Then, God will give us great peace. That is what Jesus taught His disciples, and it applies to us today, as well.
A bad storm arose while Jesus and His disciples were crossing the sea. Jesus was sleeping, but they were frantic, thinking they were going to die. They woke Jesus up and asked Him to save them. (Matthew 8:26) Jesus asked them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then, He rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. The disciples were amazed, and we all need to learn from what Jesus told them here.
Our fearfulness comes from a lack of faith. We worry, because we do not believe God can handle our problems. Many times we don't even think about praying for Him to help us. That is how little faith we have. Instead, we should know that the Lord can handle anything, so we don't even get fearful and stressed. We then reach out to Jesus in faith, and ask Him to deliver us. He is glad when we ask, and He responds.
Therefore, if we want to experience a "great calm" in our life, we need to depend on the Lord for everything. We need to believe He can do anything we need for Him to do for us. Then, we need to ask Him. If we will consistently follow this pattern, we can live in an atmosphere of great calm. That is God's will for all of us, instead of living in a storm all of the time wondering what we are going to do.
