God Knows Who Trusts Him
I get a lot of texts and emails from people who are concerned about me since Chris went to be with the Lord. I appreciate each one very much. Each time I try to give a short reply, if possible. I usually express to them that "God is good." That is to reassure them that I am OK because God is taking care of me, and He always knows just what to do. I think if more people would really trust in the goodness of God, it would bring them a great amount of peace.
That is what the prophet Nahum tried to drive home for the people of his day and for us today. (Nahum 1:7) He assured us that the Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him. This verse might seem obvious to many people, but I believe there are some very important realities we need to take from it. Let's stop for a moment to listen to the Lord.
God is a stronghold all of the time. He is all-powerful and all-knowing. Therefore, He can provide protection from any enemy that we may have. He can give us the power to defeat any enemy or overcome any problem. However, He doesn't do it automatically. Just like any stronghold or fortress, we have to run to Him and allow Him to shield us. We will do that each time if we really trust Him, and we are not trusting in ourselves or in other people or things.
The truth is that God knows who trusts Him. There are some people, even believers, who try to use God like a spare tire. They only take out the spare tire when they have a flat. They put it on for a short time, and then put it back in its place. That is not trusting God. That is using Him. We must allow Him to be our Lord and go to Him all of the time, in every situation, because we have faith in Him, not anyone or anything else. When He knows that He is quick to help us in our times of need.
