Making Others Sin

God hates sin. He will always punish us when we sin. It grieves His heart when we sin, and He doesn't want us to sin even more, so that is why He has to send us consequences for our sins. As bad as that is, there is something even worse. It really makes God angry when we are the cause for other people to sin. We must guard against doing this and corrupting others, not just hurting ourselves.

That is what God said about Jeroboam who became the king over the 10 northern tribes and the country of Israel. He made 2 golden claves for the people to worship, and he tried to keep them from going to Jerusalem to worship the One True God. (I Kings 14:16) God told the people that He would give Israel up, because of the sins of Jeroboam, who sinned and who made Israel sin. We see this happening around us all of the time.

As parents, we must be very careful not to make our children sin. I have seen parents who kept their children from going to church and even from following the Lord because they did not want to do God's will themselves. I have also heard of parents who gave illegal drugs to their children and caused them to become addicted. I believe God will severely punish those parents for leading their children to sin, instead of leading them to righteousness.

However, it is just as bad when a boss at work tells his or her employee that they have to do something illegal or unethical to keep their job. Of course, there are teachers in schools and colleges who teach their students that sin is not wrong, as well as encouraging them to sin. There are political leaders who sin and lead others to join them today, just like Jeroboam did back then. God will not allow these things to happen without giving these people a stricter judgment.
