God's Great Love and Forgiveness

I am convinced that most people do not have a good grasp of the love and forgiveness of God. They see Him as an unconcerned God who created everything, but now, He is not involved in the things of this world. Nothing could be farther from the truth. As I remind us often, God is love. He can not be anything other way, and His love is complete and expansive. It is not like human love, at all. The same is true for His forgiveness. It is complete, whereas, human love is often partial and temporary. David tried to give us an accurate description of God's love and forgiveness, so we would appreciate it. (Psalm 103:11,12) Let's try to allow this to sink in, so we can respond to Him well, and share the truth with others.

God loves everyone, but His love for those who fear Him is as great or strong as the distance from heaven to earth. We often hear people say, "I love you to the moon and back," when they want to say they love us a lot. God's love is so much greater than that. There is no way to humanly measure the distance form heaven to earth, and there is no way for us to express how strong it is. However, this word picture should convince us once and for all that God's love is steady and unchanging, since it is so vast and strong. We can always count on His love. Also, God separates our sins from us as far as the sunrise is from the sunset. That is the extent of our forgiveness, when we trust Him. Of course, there is no way to measure the distance from the sunrise to the sunset, either, since each keeps moving as the earth rotates. What a picture of complete forgiveness. God does not hold our sins against us. Once we are forgiven by the blood of Christ and our salvation by grace through faith in Him, our sins are gone. He only sees the blood of His precious Son that has cleansed us. Therefore, let's marvel at the great love and forgiveness of God for those who fear Him, as David did, and let's spread this word to all of those around us, so they can know His love and forgiveness, too.
