The Failure to Repent
The plagues of the book of Revelation are very severe. Great numbers of people are going to be killed in short periods of time. Horrible disasters will occur in nature that affect all of the people in various ways. It will be very evident that these things are from God and that He is not pleased with the people worshiping demons and idols of all kinds. However, the people who were not killed, did not repent of the works of their hands and stop worshiping false gods and demons. (Revelation 9:20) Their hearts were so hard that they were totally set against turning to the Lord. There are already many people like this in the world now.
It is difficult to conceive of people worshiping demons, but it goes on openly in the USA, and it happens all of the time in other countries, though it may be disguised in various ways. I have seen statues that looked very demonic, and people were worshiping them, thinking it would help them in their lives. Also, there are many people who are worshiping idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood. Those idols can't see, hear, or walk, which even the people themselves can do, but they gladly worship them, because they think it is good for their lives. All of this is going on around us, even though God reveals Himself to each person in the world, so that we know He is there. We know when He is not pleased with us, because He always punishes our sins in one way or another. Yet, many people will never see their need to turn to Jesus, because their hearts are so hardened by their sins. They are set on living their own way, totally apart from God's loving grace. This is a truly sad situation, but we know it will just get worse and worse until the end of time on this earth.
