God's Actions Are Never Done in Vain
When God brought destruction on the people of Judah and on the city of Jerusalem, His actions must have seemed harsh to the people. Ezekiel was asked to do some very strange things to show the people the message of God about what was about to happen, too. However, God assured Ezekiel that nothing He did was done in vain, and Ezekiel would know that when he saw the ultimate conduct and actions of the people. (Ezekiel 14:23) He knew that Ezekiel would see that the hearts of the people were brought to repentance, and he would be comforted.
We often fall into the trap of questioning God and His actions. We think that He is being too harsh in some instances, too. It might seem that what God is doing is not working, but we need to wait on the Lord and see the outcome of all of His works. After all, people have very strong wills. It takes time for people to get the message. Sometimes, they have to get to the end of their rope before they start listening to Him. However, God knows just what it will take to get His message across to each individual, because He made us and He knows us completely. Therefore, whether we are confounded by God's actions or it is someone we know, we need to stop and remember that God has a good purpose for all He does or allows, and He never does anything in vain. It is all working together to fulfill His great purpose for us and for this world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 15-17.
