Children, God's Blessing for Us
Unfortunately, some people see children as a bother and a hindrance. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Children are a heritage from the Lord and a reward.(Psalm 127:3) If we neglect to appreciate them and to help them to grow up well, we have squandered a valuable gift to us and to our world.
Children are a heritage from the Lord. A heritage is something that is passed down from one generation to another to pass along the values of our family. God gave them to us, so that we could instill in them His truth and character. Then, we shoot them out into society and into the future, like arrows. They have an important mission to pass on what we have taught them, so others can know the Lord and the world can be a better place. When we fail to bring them up well, we fail ourselves and our society.
Children are a reward. They are valuable, and they are to be treasured. They are made in God's image, but they contain part of us. That makes them perfectly suited for us. They bring us joy, and they challenge us, but as long as we see them as a reward, we never resent them or the challenges they present. In our old age they will bless us, if we have loved them and nurtured them in the Lord.
Let's thank God for our children today, and let's resolve to be the best example of the Lord Jesus to them that they will ever know. Let's inspire them to be like Jesus, too.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 130-132.
