Tingling Ears
Sin has consequences. God punishes us for sin, because He knows the destruction sin brings into our lives and the lives of those around us. The consequences are intended to drive us away from sin and to lead us to decide to do God's will.
Hezekiah's son, Manasseh, did not heed God's warnings about sin. He did not follow in his father's footsteps, either. He gave in to sin in a huge way. He sinned more than the pagans before him.(II Kings 21:11,12) Therefore, God announced that He would bring calamity on Jerusalem because of the sins of Manasseh, and it would be such a calamity that when people heard about it their ears would tingle. Today, we would say that they would not be able to believe their ears.
People endure problems in life that get worse and worse, but they will not turn from their sins. They would rather enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time and be independent from God, than turn away from the sin that is destroying them and turn to the God who loves them. Who can figure that out? That is what sin does to you. I say sin makes you stupid. I believe that with all my heart. If you find your life unraveling, and if you find yourself doing crazy things for no good reason, please recognize what sin is doing to you, and run to the Lord Jesus. He can and will deliver you, if you will trust Him as Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 22-24.
