Encouraging Our Friends
We all can use some encouragement from time to time. It gives us a lift. It keeps us from getting down in the hard times. We know there are friends who care about us and who will help us with anything we need.
That is the kind of friend Jonathan was to David.(I Samuel 23:16,17) After David had to flee from Saul and hide in the woods, Jonathan risked his life to come to him and to share how God had assured him that David would be the king of Israel. He even pledged to be by his side when that happened. I am sure that was a great encouragement to David, because he was under the stress of being hunted, and it was easy to get discouraged.
Who do you know who needs some encouragement? Take some time and go out of your way to visit them, or to send them a nice card or letter, not an email. Pray for them, and then, tell them a verse from the Bible or something the Lord lays on your heart for them. Assure them that you are there for them. It will make their day. It may make their year.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 24-26.
