Fear
I did the lesson for our Good News Club today at the elementary school near our church. We had 36 children learning God's Word and having a great time. The lesson was on how fear affected David and Saul. I believe it was good for the children to hear. It is important for all of us.
Fear can cause us to sin. When we are afraid of someone or something, we are tempted to lie to protect ourselves, or we are tempted to make our own plans to protect ourselves. Either way we for get to trust the Lord and live in His victory. We must overcome fear in His power.
The verse for the lesson was II Timothy 1:7. It tells us that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind. What a fantastic truth! We must not allow fear to grip us, and we must not think fear comes from God. He does not give us fear, Satan does. He gives us power to overcome fear. He gives us love that is always faithful, and He gives us self-control so we can follow Him. If we receive His gifts, we can always do away with fear and follow His will, instead of giving in to sin.
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 6-8.
