The Laodicean Age
Did you hear about the TV reporter who went out on the street to interview people for a news program. He was asking folks to answer one question. He saw a man approaching, and he popped the question to him, "What are the biggest problems in the world today?" The man looked at him with a shrug and said, "I don't know, and I don't care." The reporter replied, "You are right! The two biggest problems are ignorance and apathy."
I am afraid that joke gives a great amount of insight into the times in which we live. Even believers are caught up in the culture so much that we suffer from ignorance of many things and apathy, instead of passion. It is a serious flaw that allows Satan to run over Christians. We must resolve to break with the culture and be informed and passionate about the things which are vital to our world and our culture around us.
It has been said that the church of Laodicea in Revelation 3 is a picture of how the world and the church will be right before Christ comes again. The Laodicean church was the "lukewarm" church that made the Lord sick at His stomach enough to spew them out. Even if we are living in the very last days, we do not have to be tepid. We can be knowledgeable of God's will and passionate about pursuing Him every day. Then, when Jesus does return, He will find us faithfully serving Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 4-6.
