Showing We Care
Many times I wonder why we can't make more progress in bringing the world to Jesus. We have so many resources and so much knowledge. How is it that the percentage of believers in the USA is shrinking, while in other parts of the world it is growing rapidly? It is a situation that should cause all of us as Christians to cry out to God in urgency over a desperate situation. Remember, Jesus gave us the responsibility to reach them and teach them, and we will be judged on how we do.
I agree with Henry Blackaby who says that the solution is found in relationships, not in programs. We will only be effective in reaching people for Christ, when we show them the love of Christ, and we relate to them in a loving way. Then, we have the platform to share the truth and to gain a sincere hearing. Therefore, we must not be too busy to show our neighbors we care in simple acts of kindness and love. Let them see Jesus in us.
After all, what did Jesus do when He was on earth? By far, He spent most of His time among the common people, bringing healing and meeting their needs with compassion. Then, when He taught them, they listened intently. They may not have automatically become believers, but they were touched by His presence, and they saw the truth in action. That is what we must do today. We must be Jesus to those we come into contact with each day. As we relate to them, we can relate the gospel to them, and prayerfully, they will be saved.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 9-11.
