The Role of Grandparents
Today was Grandparents Day at our North Henry Academy. The children sang their songs to the crowd of grandparents and parents, and then, I was able to share a short message with them. I tried to challenge them to consider what they could impart to their grandchildren. I pointed out that besides telling their grandchildren about having a relationship with Jesus, the most important thing they can pass along is God's wisdom. That is the only real wisdom, and it is worth more than rubies according to the Book of Proverbs.
Think of how many unwise things you have done. Then, think about the unwise things your children have done. The loving thing to do is to know God and His wisdom, so that you can pass it on to your children and grandchildren, so that they can avoid those terrible painful mistakes and sins. It is not a sure thing, because they still have a choice for themselves, but you can make the truth of God and the wisdom of God clear to them. James 1:5 tells us plainly that if anyone lacks wisdom, we can ask God and He will give it to us liberally. That is a great promise, and it is a wonderful thing to pass on to our children and grandchildren.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 10-12 and II Corinthians 4.
