July 28, 2006 - Psalms 46-48 and Acts 28

God is so good, and no matter what is going on in the world, He is in control. We can trust in Him as our refuge and strength. We can praise Him with joyful shouts and singing. We can know that He will work out His purposes. I pray that you will be encouraged today, as you read God's perfect Word.

These psalms are so practical for the world situation right now. Psalm 46 tells us that even if the earth is removed, we can flee to God as our refuge, and we do not have to give in to fear. It admonishes us to be still and to know He is God. Psalm 47 tells us to sing His praises. Praise always reminds us of the greatness and power of God, so it comforts us in times of trouble. Then, Psalm 48 speaks of the mountain of God and the city of God. This refers to Jerusalem. God is perfectly capable of defending His city and establishing it forever. (v.8) There is nothing that can keep God from working His will in this world.

Acts 28 is a good example of God being in control. Paul is bitten by a deadly snake, but he does not die. God heals the father of Publius and many others. Paul is able to get to Rome, and he is given the freedom to preach Christ while he waits for his trial. Is there any question that God was in control of these things? Is there any question that God is in control today? I hope we all realize that God is there for us and that He is reigning from heaven today. We can dwell in Him as our refuge and our strength. That is His will, and we should praise Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 49-50 and Romans 1.
