July 27 - Isaiah 35-37
Isaiah 35 is a beautiful description of the Millenial kingdom. This is the 1,000 year reign of Christ from Jerusalem after His return to the earth. The world will be radically different both in the way nature works and in spiritual things. It will be an almost perfect place. The desert will bloom. There will not be any wars until the end of the 1,000 years. The animals and the people will live together in peace. However, the greatest difference will be the enforcement of holiness. Here the road to Jerusalem is called the Highway to Holiness, because Jesus will teach the people true holiness. The Believers will model holiness, but those who are unbelievers will still be lost and follow Satan in the end. Why? Because it takes a change of heart, not just a change of actions for a person to really be saved.
Then, Isaiah 36 and 37 are a wonderful example of what we read yesterday. God led Hezekiah to trust in Him through the leading of Isaiah himself, instead of giving into the king of Assyria. Then, God delivered Jerusalem by sending an angel to kill 185,000 of the Assyrians, and He even had the king himself assassinated by his sons. This shows the power of God and that no human can fight against Him and win. Isaiah did not just preach the truth, he lived by what he preached. That is how all of us should live each day. Hezekiah was faithful to God in the face of all kinds of pressure. We must not give into the pressure from the world. We must know that Jesus is our hope and strength.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 38-40.
