Unlikely Believers
I am sure that we, as Christians, have all met people whom we thought would probably never come to believe in Jesus and be saved. It is not that we are being judgment or that we don't love them. It is just by their actions and by their words, we can see that they are very much against the Lord. That makes it hard for us to think that they would change their minds and their hearts to believe in the Lord. However, we need to be careful when we are tempted to feel this way.
God is in the business of changing things so that we see things that we never thought we would see. One day that is going to happen for the people in Egypt and Assyria, which is modern day Iran. (Isaiah 19:23) "In that day Egypt and Assyria will be connected by a highway. The Egyptians and the Assyrians will move freely between their lands, and they will both worship God." Now that is going to be something to see how God works that out, isn't it? Well, believe me, He can and will do it.
When we see prophecies like this one, it should touch our hearts to have hope for every person we know to come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. It should make us ashamed of any times that we have not tried to see someone saved because we thought it was impossible. God is in the business of doing impossible things, and we need to be praying for Him to do seemingly impossible things in the lives of those who need the Lord. We must never stop praying for them until they get saved or until they leave this world. There is always a chance as long as they are alive.
Just consider that the people of Egypt are Muslims. They believe in Allah, not God. Their culture has been that way for a long time, too. The Iranians are the most militant Muslims. It is their desire to see Israel and the United States completely destroyed and all of the Jewish people killed. Their hearts are filled with hatred toward the Jews and us. However, this passage says that one day the Egyptians will turn to the Lord and both they and the Iranians will worship the One True God. I pray God would do this very soon.
