What Sorrow for Backwards Thinking
There are things that we do in life that cause us great sorrow and anguish. Sometimes we commit sins that bring destruction to our lives. Other times we make decisions that are not correct, and we experience the dire consequences of our decisions. However, we might get the most sorrow for believing the wrong things and being taken down the wrong way which is apart from God's truth. That is happening to people a lot today. We see it all around us.
It was no different in Isaiah's time. Therefore, God told Him to warn His people about this backwards thinking. (Isaiah 5:20) "What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter." It would seem that these truths would be evident to everyone, but they are not. There are many today who call evil good, light dark, and bitter sweet. We must watch out that we do not fall into this trap.
Anything that is not pleasing to God is evil. It is sin. He tells us in His Word what is evil and what is good. Some people today reject God's Word, and they go so far as to totally contradict what He has told us. They say that abortion is good, even though it is the murder of a child. They say that hating or harming people is right just because they disagree with them on some issue. Many people say that sexual immorality of various kinds is good, when God is very clear that is against His will and against nature in some cases. We must not fall into these fallacies.
There are those who say that the occult is light when it is darkness from Satan himself. Others try to convince us they see the light when they say that a man can be a woman or a woman can decide to be a man. Their logic is darkness, not light. They say that the Christian life is bitter when it is sweet. All of these mistaken ideas lead to great sorrow in the lives of those who embrace them. We should pray for them and love them, so that they can come to what is good, light, and sweet. That way their lives will be filled with joy, not sorrow.
