Supreme over All the Earth

There is so much conflict in the world right now. Several nations are at war with each other. The leaders can't agree with each other on what needs to be done. Even the ones who are supposed to cooperate with each other to protect each other can't agree on what they need to do. It is obvious from the human perspective that no one is in charge. However, from the heavenly perspective there is Someone in charge of everything.

I like how the Psalmist made this so perfectly clear for everyone in the world both the righteous and the unrighteous. (Psalm 83:18).He reminded the unrighteous nations and peoples that God would punish them so they would learn that He alone was called Lord, that He alone was the Most High, Supreme over all the earth. That is a great verse for all of us, believers or unbelievers, to see who God is and how we need to respect Hm. Let's break it down a little.

Only the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is to be called Lord. Lord means the one who is in charge. I like to tell the children and young people that the word Lord means "boss." We are to obey everything that the Lord has commanded us and everything He tells us, because He is our Boss. What the Boss says is always right, we must not argue or disobey, or we will be in trouble. He is not just the Boss. God is the Most High Boss. The Boss over all of the bosses on earth.

I like how the psalmist assured all of us that God is supreme over all the earth. I am afraid that sometimes we think that God is just dealing with the church and with all of the believers in this world. No, He is supreme over all the earth. God is working in every country, and He is working with all of the countries together, so that His will is assured of being fulfilled. I know bad things happen, but I also know that He is causing all things to work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. That is just how mighty God is, and we need to see Him like this all of the time.
