Places of Spiritual Significance

As Christians, we have places where God has done significant things in our lives. I am talking about places where God met us in such a way that it brought change in our lives according to His will. Take a minute and remember the place where you trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It will always have a special place in your heart. Remember the place where you exchanged your vows of holy matrimony. Then, think of other places where God revealed Himself to you in a very special way. Don't ever forget those places!

Solomon was charged by God and his father, David, with building the Temple of the Lord. (II Chronicles 3:1) So he began to build the Temple on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to David, his father. The Temple was also built on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, where David offered the sacrifices, and God stopped the plague He had sent because of David's sin. This was the place that God had placed on David's heart because of its spiritual significance. Let's consider why God selected this place.

When God  called on Abraham to offer his son, Isaac, as a burnt offering, he sent them to Mount Moriah. It was there that Abraham was ready to kill his son of promise, but God stopped him and provided a ram caught in a bush  to  take his place. This place showed the great faith of Abraham and the events there foreshadowed what would happen later at that same place. As I said, God also had mercy on David there and stopped a terrible plague. I am sure David was forever grateful for that, so he chose this place for the Temple.

However, about 1,000 years after David and Solomon, the greatest act of spiritual significance took place on Mount Moriah. Jesus Christ, the God/Man was crucified on a cruel cross to take our place, so we could be forgiven our sins and have eternal life. All of those sacrifices offered in the Temple pointed to the Ultimate Sacrifice of Jesus for all of the sins of the world. He died once for all of our sins, and He allowed it to be done to Him on Mount Moriah. These places show that God has a plan for this world and for us, and we should be sure to never forget and follow Jesus with all our heart.
