Being the Most Faithful

All of us want to be good at what we do. A man wants to be recognized at his profession for doing well. A lady wants to be known as a good mother. If we have hobbies or we participate in some type of sports, we want to excel in those things, too. It is just a part of human nature. It doesn't necessarily mean that we have selfish ambition. We just want to be the best we can be at what we do. This ought to go for our relationship with the Lord, too.

King Hezekiah was a king of Judah at the time when Israel was conquered by the Assyrians. The Bible speaks very highly of him. (II Kings 18:5) God's Word affirms that he trusted the Lord, the God of Israel. Then, it makes a huge statement that there was no one like him among all of the kings of Judah, either before or after him. I am not sure if it means he was greater than King David, who ruled over all of the tribes, or not. I know he was the most faithful of all of the kings who ruled over the southern nation of Judah. That was quite an accomplishment.

We all need to have a faith in God that will lead us to want to trust Him fully in everything. If we don't have that kind of faith, we will surely fall far short of what the Lord wants for us. We don't need to compare ourselves with other people. They are not the standard we are to live up to. We need to measure ourselves by Jesus. He is the example for all of us. He became a man to show us just what is possible for us to accomplish with the Lord's help. Once we are saved the Holy Spirit is within us to give us the power and guidance we need to be as much like Jesus as possible.

So, the question is, "What are we shooting for?" Are we setting our hearts and minds an being the most faithful person who has every lived?" I believe that should be our goal, because if we just try to be better than most people, we will not become very much like Jesus as all. Then, one day at the Mercy Seat Judgment we will hear the Lord tell us His appraisal of how we have done. It will be terrible to see the disappointment on His face, if we failed Him. However, it will be so wonderful if we hear His words of affirmation if we did well.
