Consequences of Impatience and Disobedience

Sometimes we overlook some of the sins that can hurt us the most. We justify them as just being minor sins. We think that we can commit them without any bad results. That is never correct. A sin is a sin, and God hates all sins. He must punish all sins, because He is holy, and He knows that one sins leads to another sin, if we don't confess and repent. We all need to learn this valuable lesson well.

Saul was the king that the people had wanted. He was appointed by God, and Samuel was aiding him. However, Saul was impatient, and He did not obey the command of God to wait for Samuel to come and offer sacrifices before going into battle. (I Samuel 13:14) So Samuel told Saul that his kingdom had to end. God had sought out a man after His own heart and already had appointed him to be the leader of His people. All this happened because Saul had not kept the Lord's command because of his impatience.

I wonder how our impatience has impacted our lives? I am sure it has led me to do things in haste that have not turned out well. It has caused me to fail to do God's will in various ways. In the past I have been so impatient that I did not pray through a situation well enough before acting. My impatience caused me to say things that were sinful or to get angry when I should not have been upset. Take a minute and ask yourself about your impatience and see what the Spirit says to you.

Saul's kingdom would have been established forever if he would have obeyed God's command, and his sons would have followed him to the throne. None of that happened because of his impatience and disobedience. I wonder what God had planed for us that we missed because we disobeyed God. God is looking for people after His own heart, those who wait patiently for Him and obey Him joyfully. When He finds us that way, He will bless us in marvelous ways for His honor and glory, like He did for David and his family.
