Asking the Lord Again
Many of us, as Christians, just don't understand prayer. We think that prayer is just asking for things when it is much more. It involves praise, thanksgiving, confession, and intercession for others as well as our prayers of supplication for ourselves. However, when we ask God for something, we should not think we just need to ask once. We may need to ask many times before we receive His answer.
David wanted to know if it was God's will for him and his men to attack the Philistines at Keilah, so he asked God. God told him to attack, but his men were afraid, so he asked again. (I Samuel 23:4) When David asked again, God did not get mad, but He gave him the same answer to confirm His will to David and his men that He would help them conquer the Philistines. We all need to learn how to ask God again when it is needed to know and do His will.
God is not our servant or our genie that we can just order Him around and tell Him what we want. He is Lord of all. We go to Him humbly to request Him to lead us in His will or to provide what we need. We might need to ask Him several times before we are sure of what He wants us to do or before we know just how to do it in His will. There is nothing wrong with asking again, if we are praying in faith, not in doubt.
After all, Jesus told us in the Sermon on the Mount to keep on asking, seeking, and knocking. If we would do that we would eventually receive what we are requesting, we would find what we were seeking, and the doors would be opened to us that we needed to go through. Please, remember prayer is about us being ready to receive God's will, not about forcing God to do our will. So asking again, even for years and years, can get us ready to hear from the Lord and receive His directions and power.
