Walking in Close Fellowship with God

As the New Year begins, each of us need to decide how we will order our life. We can just go back to doing what we have always done, or we can consider what needs to be done to improve our life. I believe the Lord wants us to continue to grow, as Christians, and to become more like Christ all the time. With that as our goal we need to ask God to show us just what is needed for us to do that well this year.

The Bible's account of Noah gives us some good insights into what we all need to do. (Genesis 6:9) Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on the earth at that time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. This description of Noah should give all of us the knowledge of what we need to do and realization that it is very possible for us to do it. Let's take it apart and let God speak to us.

We all need to be righteous. Of course, that means trusting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, so He can forgive our sins and pronounce us righteous before Him. We can't do that by ourselves. It is only by God's grace. However, after we are saved, we must determine to stay right with God and with other people. Therefore, we must be constantly confessing any sins of which the Holy Spirit convicts us, and we must make things right with any other person whom we may have hurt in any way. Then, we will be blameless, like Noah.

We can't use this world as an excuse for not being righteous and blameless. Noah was the only blameless person on earth in his time, but he did the right things. Today, we have other believers to help us. The key is to love the Lord with all our heart and to walk in close fellowship with Him every day. In other words we make Him our best Friend, and we talk with Him about everything. We read His Word out of love, and we do what it says because we love Jesus, not out of duty. If we do that this year, we will become more like Jesus.
