Promoted!
Most of us have had jobs where we were promoted to another job with a higher level of responsibility. It gave us a good feeling of accomplishment. We probably received the promotion because of our hard work and good attitude. Whatever the reason for our promotion, we had to take on a whole new level of difficulty in the things we had to do. In each case we had to see if we had what it would take to succeed at that level.
Joseph had the greatest surprise of his young life after he interpreted Pharaoh's dreams for him. Joseph was promoted from having no job to having a very important job. (Genesis 41:41) "Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt." Joseph was 30 years old, and he had only been a shepherd, a servant, and a prisoner. However, He did very well because of the blessings of God on his life. The same can be true for us.
Yes, Joseph was ready to be the second in command in Egypt. He was ready to steer the country through the years of plenty and the years of famine. Partly, he had learned from caring for the flock, being in charge of Potiphar's house, and being in charge of his prison unit. However, his real preparation for the promotion came from his close relationship with God. Joseph knew he could count on God to show him the meaning of dreams and how to do whatever job he had.
I wonder if we have that type of close relationship with God? If we are going to be promoted by God, we have to be praying every day, and listening for God to teach us as we pray. We need to be reading and studying the Bible, so we know the Lord and His ways. Then, we need to live according to His will and ways every day in the smallest things of life all the way to be biggest things we face. When God sees us being faithful in those ways like Joseph was, we could be promoted at any time, and we will be ready for whatever God has for us to do.
