The Lamb will Shepherd Them

As we celebrate the incarnation of Jesus this Christmas season, it is good for us to focus on Him being the Lamb of God. That is His nature, and that is why He came to be born into this world of the virgin Mary. He was following the Father's will, and the Father led Him in all He did and said. Yes, He came to pay for our sins so we could be saved and have eternal life, but that is not the end of what He does for us.

John gives us a picture of the multitude of people who went through great tribulation and entered heaven. They are all around the throne worshiping the Lamb. (Revelation 7:17) Then, John tells us that the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. What a joy that the Lamb turns into our Shepherd to care for our every need after we are saved.

Jesus doesn't save us and then leave us on our own. He walks with us and talks with us. He leads us to living fountains of water. I know this verse is speaking of heaven, but I believe He does the same thing for us while we are still in this world. (Romans 8:32) If we, as Christians, will follow Him every day as our Shepherd, He will always lead us in the right way and bless us with what we need to nourish our souls. I have seen it happen so often in my life.

Then, when we get to heaven, He will continue to shepherd us, provide for us, and wipe away every tear from our eyes. What a comforting truth this presents to us! It touched my heart because I thought of the great tribulation that my wife Chris went through with her pancreatic cancer, but now she is with Jesus. The Lamb is her Shepherd taking care of her. She is healthy and well nourished, and she has no tears, because He has wiped them all away. Praise God!
