The Lamb Who was Slain

John, the Apostle, was caught up to heaven so God could show him the worship going on around the throne of God. He saw the glory of God in vivid colors on the throne. He saw 4 living creatures which represented all living beings. He saw 24 elders who represented all of the believers in the Old and New Covenants. Then, he saw a Lamb by the throne with 7 horns and 7 eyes, which represented the Holy Spirit. The Lamb was Jesus. He had authority to open the scroll that represented the title deed of the earth. What a glorious sight!

Then, John saw ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands and thousands of angels, and he heard them saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing." (Revelation 5:12) Then, all of the creatures in heaven and on earth joined in the worship of the Lamb, because He was worthy of all praise and worship. We, as Christians, should be quick to join in the worship of Jesus, the Lamb Who was slain at every opportunity we have to give Him all of our thanks and praise.

Why was Jesus worthy of all of these accolades? The answer is simple. It is because He was slain. He was the spotless Lamb of God who came down from heaven to be born of a virgin, live a sinless life, and die as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all humanity. There is no one else who could have done this, and Jesus did this out of His great love for all people. For this, His praise should continually be in our mouth. He is worthy.

No one took Jesus' life from Him. He willingly laid it down for us. That is why He is seen as a lamb. A lamb goes silently to the sacrifice, innocent and harmless. However, the lamb is the sacrifice required by the Father for the remission of sins. There is no remission of sins without the shedding of blood, and Jesus' perfect, unique blood was the only blood able to pay the sin debt for all people. Only the God/Man's blood could do this. It had to be God giving Himself for us. That is why Jesus is always worthy!
