My Heart's Desire
I have been speaking and writing to as many people as possible now for over 50 years. I am doing all of these things to try to fulfill the calling the Lord put on my life at age 17. Sometimes I wonder if I have been able to live out what God wanted me to do. However, I do know one thing for sure. My heart's desire has been to see as many people as possible be brought closer to Jesus and to come to know Him as their Lord and Savior.
That is the exact sentiment that Paul expressed to King Agrippa when he stood before him and gave a defense of his actions and his faith. (Acts 26:29) Paul said, "I would to God that not only you, but also all who hear me today, might become both almost and altogether such as I am, except for these chains." Paul shared his heart when King Agrippa said that Paul almost persuaded him to become a Christian. I pray that would be the heart's desire of each of us who know Jesus.
We should all be convinced that the best thing that can ever happen to any person is for them to come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. We should experience the abundant life in Jesus, and we should want that love, joy, and peace for everyone we meet along life's path. Therefore, we should be ready to say or do anything that would bring someone closer to being a Christian, as King Agrippa said Paul had done for him.
Then, we should especially desire to see men and women, boys and girls come to enter a personal relationship with Jesus. As I have often said, "The greatest thing we can ever do, besides putting our trust in Jesus, is to lead someone else to do the same thing we have done." Next to being saved that is the greatest feeling we can have. It gives us great joy, because it gives God great joy. I pray all of us will experience these joys often.
