God's Love in Us
I love to teach the Bible, and when I teach, I love to be able to answer the questions people ask. That is the way that I know I am teaching what they really need to hear. Just this Sunday in our Connection Group I was asked if we could really have God's Agape love in us. I was so happy to be able to answer in the affirmative. Yes, we have God in us, and God is Agape love, so we have His love in us to share with other people.
That was actually part of Jesus's prayer in John 17. He prayed for His disciples of that day, and then He prayed for us who would believe from their witness. He ended the prayer with an amazing request from the Father. (John 17:26) Jesus said that He had declared the name of the Father to His disciples, and He would declare it even more later. His reason was that the love with which the Father had loved Him might be in us, and He might be in us. Isn't that a glorious request?
Can you even imagine the love that the Father has always had for the Son? Yes, there is only One God. However, there are three Persons in the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They have all existed from eternity past, and they will always exist. They are all perfect love, and they have shown that love for each other perfectly forever. They made us in their image that they could have a love relationship with us.
We enter that relationship wham we turn from our sins, trust Jesus to forgive our sins, and surrender to Him as Lord of our life. When we do that Jesus comes to abide in us in the Person of the Holy Spirit, and we have His love. Now, we can love God and others with the same love the Father had for Jesus. That is the unity and the love God desires for every person. What a wonderful Savior we have Who would pray such a request for us.
