The First Commandment
Life is all about priorities. You might not think that you have any priorities or that you accomplish your priorities, but you really do. Whatever things you do every day are your priorities. It may just be eating and sleeping and playing video games,. but those are your priorates if that is what you do. You give those things priority over everything else. However, we do need to have the right priorities to have an abundant life. Then, we have to live by them every day.
The Bible is very clear in the Old Testament and in the new Testament about our number 1 priority. It is not complicated, and it is attainable for every one of us. (Mark 12:30) "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment." It is not the first of the 10 Commandments, but it is the first of all the commandments.
Each of us can choose to love God. He is a Person, and we are to love Him as we would love any person in this world. We are to put Him first in all we do. We are to desire to please Him in all we do. We are to be completely enthralled with the One who loved us enough to die on the cross for us that we might have a close relationship with Him and live with Him in heaven forever. If we can't love Him, as loving as He is to us, how can we love anyone else?
Then, when we love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, that love compels us to do all of the right things to make our life complete. We will read His Word, the Bible, since it is His love letter to us, and we will cherish all it says, so that we do it out of love for Him., not out of duty. We will be quick to spend time talking with Him all through the Day. We will tell others about the One we love and how they can know Him, too. We will serve Him with all our energy, because we love to bring Him joy and to help those He loves. This first commandment must be our priority if we call ourselves Christians.
