Slaying the Giants

We have a fascination with giants. There are fairy tales written about people interacting with giants. The thought of having to fight against giants strikes fear into most people's hearts. I know I saw a very large, muscular man at the store, and I immediately thought, "I wouldn't want to fight against him. He would hurt me badly." I can't imagine seeing a real giant and having to tangle with him.

That is just what happened to David and his men when they went to battle in Gath. (II Samuel 21:22) There were four giants who were the sons of the giant in Gath. All four fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants. David and his men were successful in slaying the giants in their day. How are we doing against our giants today?

I am not referring to us facing physical giants today. I am thinking about the spiritual giants we have to confront every day of our lives until the are slain by the power of God. I see so many people who are being defeated by giant of fear. They are afraid of what other people will say or do, so they are paralyzed and kept from having meaningful interaction with other people. They say they are shy, but they are really controlled by fear.

That is just one example of many that I could site. What are your giants that are holding you back from living in victory?  Just like David and his servants killed the giants by God's power, so can we. We must stop listening to Satan, let the Spirit fill us, and use the Word of God and prayer as our spiritual weapons to defeat every giant. God is faithful, but we have to face our fears, and turn to the Lord to overcome each one until they are all conquered.
