Be on Your Guard
We live in a dangerous day and time. There are so many people who are trying to bring harm on others in one way or another. It could be by setting up a scam on the Internet or sending a phishing email. There are others who are just set on breaking into our homes to rob or harm us. When we drive, there are many people who exhibit road rage at the least little problem. We have to be careful everywhere we go and when we are at home.
The same is true when it comes to being harmed spiritually. The apostle Peter gave us an admonition about this. (II Peter 3:17) Since we know there are people all around us who are false teachers, and they are out to profit off of us, we must be on our guard, so that we are not carried away by the error of these unscrupulous people and lose our firm commitment to the Lord. I pray that all of us will heed this warning.
The fact is that we can't believe everything we see, hear, or read. There are many people who believe the wrong things. They do not follow God's Word. They make up their own doctrines and practices. Many of them are in it to make money or to become popular, so they will say or do whatever they can to lead people from the truth and into their error. They are unscrupulous in that they will do whatever it takes to get their way, no matter how immoral or illegal it might be.
If we let our guard down, and we don't check everything out by the Bible, we can be carried away by false doctrine. We can even lose money or be led to be a part of something that hurts people instead of helping them. Our own spiritual commitment to the Lord can be damaged, and we can drift away from a firm foundation in Jesus. Please, do not let that happen to you, but stay on your guard all of the time.
