Rescued by Christ
It hasn't been that long ago that the devastating hurricanes came through the Southeast and caused so much damage and loss of life. It was heartbreaking to see the images and hear the stories of how people had lost everything. However, at the same time we heard the accounts of those who had been rescued from the winds and the flood waters. Those stories showed the goodness of the rescuers and the deliverance of those they rescued.
The truth is that all of us, as Christians, have been rescued spiritually, and we should be so thankful for the One who rescued us. (Galatians 1:3-5) We all can experience the grace and peace that comes from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forevermore. What a word picture for us to consider today.
All of us are held captive by the sins of this present evil age. We are carried away by the flood of fleshly sins, and we are disoriented to the truth by the deceptive winds of Satan's lies. We are powerless to get loose from those forces on our own. We have to have a Strong Deliverer. Jesus is that Rescuer, who gave Himself for our sins.
Once we put our trust in Him as our Lord and Savior, our sins are forgiven, and we are set on the solid ground of His kingdom. We are no longer overwhelmed by this world, but we are set free by the plan of our God, who gave His Only-Begotten Son for our salvation. Now, we live in that grace by which we were saved, and we experience the peace of Jesus every day, as we live for our Savior and give Him and the Father all the glory forever.
