Decaying while being Renewed

I have heard it said that getting old is not for sissies, and I wholeheartedly agree. The older I get the more pain I have since my body is breaking down and getting weaker. I did my 3+ mile walk this morning, as usual, but when I got back I had a hitch in my "get along." I tried to stretch, but my legs said "not so fast." It seems that physical things are just getting harder.

Paul experienced this in his life and ministry, too. However, he did not let it get him down, and nor should we. (II Corinthians 4:16) We do not lose heart, because though our outer person is decaying, our inner person is being renewed day by day. The physical may be getting harder each day, but the spiritual things are getting better every day, as we walk with the Lord.

We should not lose heart in life because we are not able to do the things we used to be able to do physically. We should realize that is a part of our body wearing out. When we stop to think about it that means we are getting closer to heaven, if we know the Lord Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. We just let others help us, or we modify what we do, so we continue to live every day to the fullest.

The opposite should be true of our spiritual life. We should be getting stronger every day that we live. The spiritual things are being renewed every day, as we are filled with the Spirit, and we feed on the Word of God, as we pray for God's guidance and power. We are able to do greater things all of the time, and what a blessing that is for us and for those around us. I pray this will be an encouragement to all of us, as believers.
