The Heart God Desires for Us

God is a Good, Good Father for us. Just like any other father He longs to see His children succeed in life. He does His best to instruct us, and to chasten us, so that we do the right things in the right way. The problem is that we are like most children. We are not as quick to learn as we should be, so we go through all kinds of unnecessary troubles.

After Moses repeated the 10 Commandments to the new generation, as they approached the Promised Land, he showed them God's desire for them. (Deuteronomy 5:29)  God said, "If only they had such a heart in them, to fear Me and to keep all My commandments always, so that it would go well with them and with their sons forever." This verse shows us how we can really have life to the full.

We have to cultivate a heart that desires to fear the Lord. Our fear for the Lord should come out of a sense of reverence and awe at His power and holiness. Then, we know that if we disobey, He will punish us, and it will not be pleasant, at all. However, it will be for our good.

We must accept the fact that God's commands are good for us, and they are given for our advancement in life. If we keep them willingly, we will live as God designed for us to live, and things will go well for us. Not that we won't have troubles and trials, but we will not have troubles we bring on ourselves, and the ones we do have will be overcome in God's power and wisdom.
