A Picture of the Trinity

It is very hard for us to understand the Trinity. Our finite minds can't completely comprehend how there is one God in three persons. We try to create all types of analogies or similarities with things in nature, like eggs and H20, but none of them fully explain the intricacies of the triune God. What we need to do is to simply take what the Bible says and believe every insight it gives us.

John had a very special experience when he was caught up to heaven to observe the worship in heaven. (Revelation 5:6) John saw a Lamb that looked as if it had been slaughtered, but it was now standing between the throne and the four living beings and among the twenty-four elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent out into every part of the earth. Let's consider this scene and what we can learn.

The Father is the One on the throne. He is continually worshiped by the angels, the four living beings, and the twenty-four elders. The four living beings represent all living beings, while the twenty-four elders represent all of the believers in the Old and New Covenants. He is the Head of the Trinity, who sent Jesus to become a man and die for us.

Jesus is the Lamb, who was slaughtered on the Cross. He is fully God, but He listens to the Father and does only what pleases Him. He is seated at the right hand of God now praying for us and waiting for the order from the Father to return to earth. The seven horns and eyes represent the Holy Spirit who is God and is sent out into all the earth. This shows how the Spirit is one with Christ and how God is everywhere at the same time.
