Thirsting for the Lord's Word

It is simply amazing how much we need water to live and to be healthy. It nourishes every cell in our bodies, and without it, we get weaker and weaker until we die. Yet, in most situations we can find water and drink it in for our health. However, a drought is a devastating event.

Amos told about the coming of a spiritual drought. (Amos 8:13) He told us that "beautiful girls and strong young men will grow faint in that day, thirsting for the Lord's Word." Yes, it is just as devastating to have a lack of the Word of God. I believe that is what we are seeing today in our land and in our world.

When we see a beautiful young lady, we admire her, and we think that she has it made. She has good looks and the ability to thrive in life. However, we know beauty is "only skin deep," and it what is in our heart that really makes the difference in our lives. Without the Word of God a beautiful young lady is totally unable to live a meaningful life.

In the same way, we are impressed to see a strong young man. He seems so confident in his physical ability, and he believes he can conquer the world. The opposite is actually the case if he doesn't live by the Word of God. His physical prowess will not get him very far at all, if He doesn't base his life in the truth of God's Word. This is why we see so many lives falling apart today. It is a lack of the Word of God.
