Guard My Lips
We all know that what we say is so very important. We can hurt others or help them, just by what we say. We also know that it is very difficult, even impossible, for us to always say the right things in our own ability. Therefore, we need to admit that we need help with our speech.
David knew this very well, and he showed us what to do. (Psalm 141:3) We must sincerely ask the Lord to take control of what we say and guard our lips. He is the only one who can enable us to always say the right thing, in the right way, at the right time.
The book of James assures us that the tongue is a fire. Just like fire, it can cause much damage to relationships if it is not under control. However, if it is under control, it is one of the most helpful parts of our body. We can really build up people, and teach them the right things.
The key is God's power. None of us can tame our own tongue. God can do it, and He wants to do it for us and for our relationships. However, we have to want it. We have to ask Him, and we have to submit to the power of the Spirit, so that we think before we speak, and we allow the Spirit to show us just what to say. I pray we will all learn this lesson.
